In Todmorden, UK, around 17 miles north of Manchester, Ben shares his story with us in his backyard garden, which his Nepali 'Mit' family had helped build 26 years ago.

The Lost Years
शायद सन् १९९० तिर झापाबाट एउटा फुच्चे केटो गलैंचा बुन्न भनी काठमाडौं आइपुग्छ । काठमाडौंमा केही समय बिताएपछि उमेर नपुगेको भन्दै त्यो केटो गलैंचा बुन्ने कामबाट निकालिन्छ । उसलाई टाढा, उत्तरी गोर्खाका मान्छेले भेटाउँछन् र गोठालो काम गर्न भनी २ हप्ताको बाटो हिँडाएर चुम भ्याली लिएर जान्छन् । त्यसपछि उ हिमालबाट कहिल्यै घर फर्किँदैन । #HerneKatha #TheLostYears Around 1990, a young boy from Jhapa (Eastern Nepal) came to Kathmandu to weave Nepali carpets. After spending some time in Kathmandu, given that he is underage, the boy is laid off from his job. Some people from the Northern Gorkha found him. Assuring him a job as a cowherd, he was taken to Tsum Valley after a two-week walk. From there on, he never returned home from the Mountain.

Even that is not possible in monsoon. The rations for 12 villages in Mugum Karmarong are then carried by either mules or humans. Lifesaving medicines also ride the mules.

Now, 55 years later, we decided to take the same journey up the steep hills of Ghanaghasya.

Chaukinis are the two women who have been assigned to look after the whole village when everyone has left.
